Sofia is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist with a multicultural background rooted in Peru, Ecuador, and Canada. She graduated from OCAD University with a degree in Material Art & Design (Fibre). Her practice explores the relationship between materiality, perception, and space through textile-based sculptures, line drawings, and site-responsive installations.
Driven by a research-led approach to textile construction, Sofia draws from architectural structures, optical phenomena, and embodied experience. Her work unfolds through slow, attentive processes that examine tension, movement, and spatial dynamics, inviting viewers into moments of heightened awareness where material and environment intersect. Through thread-based constructions and sculptural forms, she investigates how crafted spaces alter perception and how the human body navigates and completes these environments.
Sofia has exhibited across a range of mediums, including textile works at The Textile Museum of Canada, film at Jackman Hall, AGO, and large-scale site-specific installations at Ontario Place and Nathan Phillips Square.
